The craft beer scene across the country has seen a boom in recent years, and it looks like it’s not going anywhere any time soon. Why would it? There is something to be said about heading to your local brewery for a carefully concocted beer that differs from the beers typically found in sports bars. Fortunately for Michigan beer lovers, Detroit’s craft brewery scene has seen steady growth over the years with no clear signs of slowing down.
The Beginning: Bell’s and Founders
Michigan is known for many things. However, for beer lovers, it is known for Bell’s Brewery and Founders Brewing Co.; two breweries that sit nicely among the top 20 largest breweries in the United States. In 2014, Michigan’s beer scene was responsible for an overall economic impact of $1.85 billion. That number grew to $2.3 billion in 2017 and is expected to grow even more in the coming years.
With over 40 breweries in Detroit (and over 300 state-wide), Detroit has quickly become a travel destination for craft beer lovers.
