Just last week, Detroit’s Campus Martius Park was named the first-ever winner of the Urban Land Institute’s Amanda Burden Urban Open Space Award. And though we may be a bit biased, in our opinion, Campus Martius is the best urban park in America.
Of course, we always knew Campus Martius was unrivaled across the country. Dozens of events take place in the park, many free, from the Winter Blast to summer concerts and casual outdoor dining. It represents what our vision is for the rest of Detroit – a vibrant, admired city by the rest of the country. Oh, and we beat parks in Boston, Seattle, New York and Pittsburgh, among 87 other entries that placed behind Detroit, (not to brag, of course). Check out the article here.
Beyond Campus Martius, the Detroit Riverfront continues to offer outstanding waterfront leisure time pursuits, including the annual River Days festival, presented by the Detroit RiverFront Conservency each June. River Days features a carnival, parade of lights, fireworks and concerts at Chene Park. National acts coming to Detroit this year include Trey Songz, 50 Cent, Babyface and Kid N Play from the House Party films.
And weekend trips to Belle Isle? Experience more of the beauty of the Detroit River and Michigan while biking, jogging or walking around the island.
So while we’re honored the nation now knows we [officially] have the best park in all the land, there’s much more to celebrate and see in the city. And we’re just getting started.
