Staying Fit While Staying Inside: My Detroit Loft Makes it Easy For Me (and My Community) to Stay Strong and Keep Healthy!

March 22, 2020 | Detroit

Staying active while staying safe IS possible! And it’s as important as ever to our mental and emotional well-being.

I’ve always made time for exercise in my schedule, and my Downtown Detroit Loft has made that very easy for me. Along with lots of excellent outdoor options, there’s a gym in my building with cardio and weight machines.

Of course, during these unprecedented times, my Loft management has also been looking out for the safety of myself and my neighbors and—even though they are cleaning all communal areas in the building (hallways, elevators, the laundry room, and the lobby) constantly throughout the day—early on they made the wise decision to close the gym so that social distancing practices and limited exposure to surfaces could be encouraged to keep our community as safe as possible!

But that doesn’t mean I haven’t been able to stay active!

I’ve taken daily runs and walks on the Detroit Riverfront—where I can go all the way out to Belle Isle on paved paths that are more than six feet wide! While I have always enjoyed having this beautiful walk so close to home (it’s less than a half-mile from my front door to the riverfront), it is especially nice right now to be able to regularly see the same people also out for solo runs and walks and wave hello from a safe distance.

And when I want a little more speed, I can bike up to Midtown, around to Corktown, or over to The Dequindre Cut.

My loft is also a great space for checking out fitness apps: I have plenty of room for my workout and huge windows to make me feel like I’m outside!

Pure Barre, whose studio is actually just around the corner from my loft, is livestreaming classes and has an app with “access to the fastest, most effective full-body workouts, anytime, anywhere. Whether you’ve never taken a Pure Barre class or you’re a Pure Barre veteran, Pure Barre On Demand will help you create, complement, or completely redefine your fitness routine at home or on the go.” After a Free Trial, plans start at $29.99 per month.

FitOn offers me the ability to change it up while charging myself back up. I can choose how long I want to work out, the intensity level I am aiming for, and my desired target area: and FitOn offers me cardio, strength training, and flexibility workout options. I can join live classes or go on demand. I can even browse by my favorite trainers. Basically, with FitOn, I’m always on-track with my goals!

I’m lucky to have a Lofts’ building that looks out for my well-being, a beautiful outdoors to explore, and a great space inside for my workouts—all while being part of a community that’s working (and working out) together even as we practice social distancing for everyone’s safety!
