While Detroit is best known as the center of the US auto industry, it also has some merit in another well-known industry. When it comes to beer, residents of Detroit know that the city does not slack in providing quality beer and quality events where enthusiasts can partake in this delicious and malty adult beverage. Every year, Detroit plays host to the Detroit Fall Beer Festival, one of the largest beer tasting events in Michigan.

About The Event

This year marks the tenth year that the Michigan Brewers Guild has hosted the Detroit Fall Beer Festival. With 800+ craft beers from close to 120 Michigan breweries, the festival celebrates the array of craft beer options that the state of Michigan has at its disposal. Obviously, a day of beer-drinking is always made better with live music and food. The Detroit Fall Beer Festival will have both available.

Where Is the Event?

The festival will take place at Eastern Market. Known as one of the nation’s oldest farm markets (established in 1891), Eastern Market has a rich brewing history and is a great location for this annual event.

When Is the Event & How Much Is It?

The event is over the course of two days. On Friday, October 26 from 5:00-9:00 p.m., tickets are $40 in advance and $45 at the gate if there are any left available. On Saturday, October 27 from 1:00-6:00 p.m., tickets are $45 in advance and $50 at the gate if there are any left available.

What Can I Bring?

Aside from your valid photo ID proving that you are 21+ (no one under 21 is allowed into the event), you may bring non-alcoholic beverages and food given that it is not stored in glass containers. In addition, you may bring backpacks, coolers, folding chairs, umbrellas, and small tents. Outside alcohol, glass containers, portable heaters, animals aside from service animals, bikes, skateboards, and grills are not permitted.

What Are Tokens?

When you get to the event, you will be supplied with 15 drink tokens. Each token is worth one 3 oz. beer sample. You can purchase additional tokens for $.50 each.

Is Parking Available?

Eastern Market has parking lots and limited street parking. With that being said, aside from providing luxury apartments for rent in Michigan, The Lofts of Merchants Row is also conveniently located a mere 1.5 miles from Eastern Market.

Are There ATMs Available?

Plan ahead and bring some cash because the festival will not have ATMs available. The merchandise tent will be accepting credit cards for merchandise and additional tokens; however, many of the food vendors will be accepting cash.

What If I Don’t Drink?

You can still attend the festival if you do not drink! Designated Driver tickets are available for purchase. It is important to remember, however, that if you change your mind and would like a beer, the festival will not make exceptions and will kick you out if you have a DD ticket and are seen drinking an alcoholic beverage.

This is an event that is not worth missing and is easy to get to if you happen to live in a particular set of nice apartments in Detroit. If you are a resident of The Lofts of Merchants Row, take comfort in knowing that your walk to the event will be short and your craft beer experience will be oh-so-sweet.
