On St. Patrick’s Day, everyone’s Irish. And at McShane’s, you can celebrate every day! I love having this authentic public house so close to my home! From St. Practice Day (the 17th of every month) to St. Patrick’s Day, McShane’s Pub & Whiskey Bar is the place to be for all things Irish in Detroit! Including their Jameson Irish Whiskey Tasting on March 23, from 6 until 8 p.m.! Sip Jameson selections curated by a Jameson Irish Whiskey representative who will be there to educate and advise while you savor Chef’s Menu!

You’ll be greeted with a Jameson & Ginger cocktail, which will pair perfectly with Chef’s Drunken Smoked Salmon & Blue Cheese Spread, Smokey Rich North Atlantic Smoked Salmon with Pungent Blue Cheese, Cream Cheese & Jameson Irish Whiskey, served with Toasted Baby Pita Bread and Fresh Vegetables.  [Fun Fact: It’s actually a Scandinavian tradition to serve blue cheese on gingersnaps as an appetizer! But it’s even more fun to drink your ginger with Jameson while eating Chef’s Drunken Smoked Salmon & Blue Cheese Spread!!]

Next, dive into Chef’s Tart Pork Dumplings, Diced Irish Ham with Tart Apples, Crumbled Bacon & Red Onion Dumplings stuffed with Creamy Smooth Muenster Cheese served Hot & Crispy.  This will pair perfectly with Jameson’s Caskmates Stout, which is “finished in Irish Craft Beer-Seasoned Barrels” to create “an initial aroma of freshly cut hay…complemented by a crisp orchard fruit character – green apples and pears, with a twist of lime zest.”

Chef’s Lamb Sliders, Fresh Ground Lamb with Onion, Garlic, Fresh Mint, and Horseradish, garnished with Pickled Red Onion & Fresh Mint will go great with the “subtle flower petal-perfume [that] develops into rich ripe fruits, while some charred oak and cedar wood bring balance and complexity” of Jameson’s Cooper’s Croze.

Roast Cottage Pie, Jameson-Braised Roast Beef with Fresh Rosemary & Thyme in Rich Beef Stock, with Onions, Peas & Carrots, served over Irish Colcannon Mashed Potatoes and garnished with Sharp Irish Cheddar Cheese & Fresh Parsley. The Distiller’s Safe, with its Hints of Cinnamon and Note of Mandarin Orange will pair perfectly with the Cabbage in the Colcannon Mashed!

And be sure to ‘reserve’ some room for Chef’s Dark Chocolate Layer Cake, with layers of Rich Dark Chocolate & Sweet Dark Chocolate Icing. Put the ‘ooh la la’ in the à la mode by dishing this dessert up with Jameson’s Black Barrel, with Aromas of Butterscotch, Taste of Vanilla, and Nutty Notes.

But why limit yourself to just one last one? Because a fine whiskey is all about the finish, I’d end the evening with a Jameson 18 Year Old Limited Reserve. “Matured for 18 years in hand-selected oak casks from Europe and America, this rare whiskey is finished in first-fill bourbon barrels. This rite of passage introduces subtle traces of vanilla to an exceptionally balanced, mellow whiskey with a lingering finale of wood, spice and toffee.”

And that lingering finale speaks to the essence of living in a Downtown Detroit Luxury Loft—where the fun never ends!
