Once again, my Downtown Detroit Luxury Loft has treated me to an evening out that was outstanding! This month’s Resident Event was held at Cornerstone Barrel House, which is a favorite of mine of and my neighbors because it is, well, literally on our corner and because they dish up a delish dinner! Plus they have ALL the Bourbons and Beers you could want!

Their carefully crafted menu is perfect for light bites before a show or for fueling up for a Gameday in Detroit! Whether it’s Opening Night or Opening Day, here’s my line-up for a #Win at Cornerstone Barrel House!

I would start with the Roasted Red Pepper Meatballs, a Custom Prime Beef Blend, with Fire Roasted Pepper & Tomato Sauce, Herb Oil, and Baguette.

It might not be the obvious choice, but the rich and savory meatballs are perfectly paired with their Pineapple Fried Rice, with Fresh Pineapple, Peas, Carrots, and Red Onion. The subtly sweet flavor of the pineapple offsets the heat in the peppers, and the light rice compliments the, well, meaty, meatballs and sauce.

I would follow this up with their version of a ‘slider’ that has Asian flair.

Their Braised Pork Minis, with Hard Cider Braised Pork and Wasabi Cole Slaw aren’t really sliders or minis. These are hearty little sandwiches that you simply get more of. Which is good. Because after you’ve tasted them, you’re going to want more.

To offset the tang of the Hard Cider braising, I would pair these with Cornerstone’s Mac. Don’t be fooled by their brevity in the naming of this dish. This is ‘Mac and ALL the Cheeses! Their Mac is prepared with Smoked Gouda, Mozzarella, Parmesan, Aged Cheddar, and Truffle Oil. You can add your Choice of Braised Pork, Beef, Jerk Chicken, but I suggest you add your Choice of Bacon. Because, well, Bacon.

Next, because of the Truffle Oil in the Mac, I’m going to suggest the ‘side’ first: Fingerling Frites, with Rosemary, Red Herb Rub, Grated Parmesan, Scallions, Bacon, and Truffle Crème Fraiche. Aside from the continuity of the ‘Truffle’ (and Bacon, because, seriously, you should always choose to add Bacon), the burst of Rosemary and Scallions on these fries will complement the depth of the flavors of the cheeses in the Mac.

Pair this with their Braised Beef Minis, with Braised Beef, Aged White Cheddar, Horseradish Aioli, and au jus, on a Potato Roll. Okay. And while these are incredible eaten as they are served (as sandwiches, I actually open them up, eat the Perfectly Braised Beef flavored by the Horseradish Aioli and Aged White Cheddar, and then dunk the Potato Roll into their incredible au jus—it’s like a savory little donut!

And, now, while you could (and should) go with an actual donut (and more!), their RumChata Bread Pudding, with Caramel, Honey-Glazed Donut, Croissant, Apple, RumChata, and Pecans, for dessert, I’m actually going to also recommend you finish up with their Jalapeno Cheddar Biscuit, with Jalapeno, Cheddar, and Biscuit. This sweet-and-savory-and-spicy treat is the perfect complement to an excellent night out in Detroit!

And, while the service and selections at Cornerstone Barrel House are great any night you go, dinner is even better when your Downtown Detroit Luxury Lofts are right across the street and the Lofts of Merchants Row treats you to one of our monthly Resident Events where you get to visit with great friends and neighbors and the delish dishes at Cornerstone Barrel House are literally ‘on the House’!
