Buddy’s is Back! Dishing Up the Original Detroit-Style Pizza in Downtown Detroit!

January 20, 2020 | Detroit

If you live in the Motor City, you know the iconic Buddy’s square pizza—where every piece has the crust and cheese ratio of a coveted corner piece—that started, appropriately enough, at the corner of 6 Mile and Conant. But did you know that the Motor City’s Original Pan Pizza was started, literally, in a steel auto pan?

So, when my Downtown Detroit Loft announced that our next Resident Event would be held at the newly opened Downtown Detroit Buddy’s, I mentally manufactured my ideal meal from all of Buddy’s options!

I would start with their Oven-Baked Meatballs, Four freshly-made Meatballs, Smothered with Homestyle Marinara Sauce and Oven-Baked with Mozzarella Cheese and Served with Grilled Garlic Bread.

All that meatiness would be perfectly paired with Buddy’s Signature Mac & Cheese, Elbow Pasta with Mozzarella and Cheddar Cheese Blend, Topped with Parmesan Cheese and Panko Crumbs, Oven-Baked to a Golden Brown.

I would then clear our palates by hitting a lighter note while paying homage the District that lights up Downtown—Greektown—and order the Greek Wrap, with Feta Cheese, Lettuce, Beets, Black Olives, Red Onions, Tomato, and Buddy’s Original Garlic Parmesan Dressing wrapped in an Herb Lavash.

Then comes the Pizza Course, which should, of course, should be accompanied by a salad—The Original Buddy’s Salad, an Antipasto with Freshly-Chopped Romaine and Iceberg Lettuce topped with Imported Ham, Salami, and Wisconsin Brick Cheese and tossed in Buddy’s Famous Vinaigrette.

I’d set the table with several of their Signature Squares!

I’d start us off in style with the Cadillac, with Wisconsin Brick Cheese, Pepperoni, Italian Sausage, Ham, Bacon, and Seasoned Ground Beef.

Then I’d rev it up with The Henry Ford, with Motor City Cheese Blend, Red Onions, Seasoned Ground Beef, Bacon, Bleu Cheese, and Tomato Basil Sauce.

Before getting fresh with ALL the veggies on the Eastern Market, Wisconsin Brick Cheese, Onions, Green Peppers, Mushrooms, and Sliced Tomatoes.

And, while known for their deep-dish Detroit-Style pies, I’d pay homage to the little slice of heaven I call home with three of their equally delish Thin-Crust [or Gluten-Free] pizzas named after the streets that form the intersection of my Downtown Detroit Luxury Loft!

The Woodward, with Motor City Cheese Blend, Italian Sausage, Roasted Red Peppers, Red Onions, Garlic, Tomato Basil Sauce, and Buddy’s Sicilian Spice Blend is perfect between Grand River, with Wisconsin Brick Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, Asiago Cheese, Spinach, Garlic, Tomato Basil Sauce, and Buddy’s Sicilian Spice Blend and Gratiot, with Wisconsin Brick Cheese, Parmesan Cheese, Asiago Cheese, Provolone Cheese, Fresh Basil, Sliced Tomatoes, Sea Salt, and Fresh-Cracked Pepper.

Yep. You can basically GOOGLE my loft with these three pizzas.

But you will find me just as easily (and often) at Buddy’s Pizza in Downtown Detroit. Because while I live in the Motor City, I love that I can walk there!

And while living so close to an iconic Detroit eatery means I can eat there every day of the week and enjoy all their incredible offerings, living in The Lofts of Merchants Row means I get to try ALL their tasty dishes for FREE when my leasing office treats me and my neighbors to a night out at Buddy’s!
